PS5 system software update September 2024

Latest PS5 Update Causing Graphics Issues for Some Players (Update)

Update: Sony is aware of the issue and is investigating, according to a statement from Square Enix.

Original story follows…

Following September 2024’s PS5 system software update, a number of players have reported that they’re experiencing graphical issues in some games. It’s currently unclear what specifically triggers the issue after updating the firmware, but we’ve seen enough reports to deduce that this isn’t an isolated case.

Which games have been impacted by September 2024’s PS5 system software update?

Graphical problems were first widely reported by Final Fantasy XVI players, following which a Reddit thread popped up describing similar visual glitches in Death Stranding. Replies to the thread were full of players experiencing random stutters and graphics issues in a variety of games, which makes it hard to pinpoint what triggers the problem for some.

However, all players reporting the aforementioned issues say they began experiencing them after the system software update. Here are some of the games that players say are glitching out post update:

  • Final Fantasy XVI
  • Death Stranding Director’s Cut
  • Dragon Age: Inquisition
  • No Man’s Sky
  • Star Wars: Outlaws
  • Gran Turismo 7
  • Metro: Last Light
  • Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
  • Horizon Forbidden West
  • Rocket League
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Diablo 4
  • Elden Ring

I personally haven’t noticed any issues, but I’m only chipping away at Astro Bot in short spurts.
