Many expected the Death Stranding 2 release date’s reveal at Tokyo Game Show this year. While a date wasn’t announced, director Hideo Kojima reassured fans the upcoming sequel has a set date that will be revealed next year.
Hideo Kojima confirms a Death Stranding 2 release date is set
At the end of the special stage event at TGS 2024, according to quotes translated by Gematsu, Kojima discussed the Death Stranding 2 release date. While the release date was not unveiled at the event, he reassured everyone that there is a date set. However, like any video game, there are factors that could impact that date, so they opted to not share it for the time being.
“While we haven’t announced the release date yet, we naturally already have one set. The plans are in place,” says Kojima. “Although production is progressing towards that goal, there are various factors that could affect the timing of the release . . . We’ve said 2025, so it will come out next year. The release date will be announced sometime next year.”
Kojima continues by saying development is going well, albeit they aren’t quite done with Death Stranding 2 yet. He does remark on the sequel’s weirdness, and uniqueness.
“Development isn’t done yet, but I feel confident, and it’s turning out to be an even weirder game than the first one,” says Kojima. “We’re making it with the sense of, ‘Is there really a game like this out there?'”
The Death Stranding 2 TGS 2024 stage event revealed new details about Kojima Productions’ new game. This includes the names of new characters introduced in the sequel. This includes George Miller as Tarman, Faith Akin as Dollman, Elle Fanning as Tomorrow, and Shioli Kutsuna as Rainy. Japanese voice actors for those characters were revealed as well. These include Mitsuru Miyamoto as Tarman, Tomokazu Sugita as Dollman, Shion Wakayama as Tomorrow, and Kutsuna as Rainy.
Also revealed was Death Stranding 2’s photo shoot event. This allows players to photograph characters with an instant camera in various poses. Kojima implied that these photos do influence the story.
Death Stranding 2 is slated for release sometime in 2025.
