Of all the new IP that Sony has created during this generation of gaming, few can compare to what Uncharted series has accomplished. Both Uncharted 1 and 2 feature out this world graphics and game play, along with sense that you’re not playing a game, but taking part in an interactive summer blockbuster. So when Sony announced that Uncharted would be making its way to the big screen, it made perfect sense. Hold your horses though, Uncharted fans. Our dreams of Uncharted 3 and the Uncharted Movie in 2011 have come to a complete halt. You can’t film a movie unless you have a Director, can you?
According to the L.A. Times, talks between Sony and Director David O. Russell (Of Three Kings fame) have fallen apart and both parties are going their own ways. The L.A. Times reported back in May that Mr. Russell had be contacted about the Director’s chair, yet without a name on the dotted line, it’s almost certain that the Uncharted film will move from 2011 to 2012… or possibly beyond.
The team at Sony, along with Main Producer Charles Roven (The Dark Knight) are moving along, trying their best to find a Director and possibly two major starts to become the ‘everyman’ Nathan Drake and his ‘love interest’ Elena. I just hope they don’t take the script and totally change it, as the one used for the game was pretty damn perfect, If I’d say so myself!
While we can continue to dream of who may play Nathan in the Uncharted movie, at least we have the glimmer hope that Uncharted 3 will hit in 2011. Drake’s Fortune hit in 2007, Among Thieves destroyed the competition in 2009, so it would make sense for a 2011 for Uncharted 3, right? We shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves though, seeing as how Sony has The Last Guardian, Motorstorm Apocalypse, Twisted Metal, Killzone 3, and Sorcery, and inFamous 2 planned for 2011, we might not need Uncharted 3 until much later down the road.
If any details regarding the Uncharted movie ‘surface’, we here at PlayStation LifeStyle will be double-sure to let you know ALL about them!!
