It is exactly this time of the year that serves as primetime for video game sales. This is mostly in part due to the ravaging crowds of shoppers that form for their personal preparations for the the holiday season. During the middle of this month, the NPD sales data for hardware and software went live and the PS3 came out on top in respects to the growth of the latter.
As it turned out, the PlayStation 3 held the largest software sales growth, from September to October, out of all the other platforms. According to the director of corporate communications at SCEA, Patrick Seybold:
“With next week’s launch of the industry’s most anticipated title, Gran Turismo 5, we’re sure to carry the momentum through the holidays.”
We can’t help but agree with the Sony executive because, despite the strong momentum carried forth by this year’s Medal of Honor and Call of Duty: Black Ops, Gran Turismo 5 will hold more significance in the consoles it will push forward during the holiday season and beyond, especially during the shopping madness that is “Black Friday”. So, who says PlayStation 3 owners don’t buy games?
