Sony’s first entry at the handheld gaming has been on the market for just under six years. What could the system use now that it’s successor is in the future? A price drop.
That’s right. After 23 million unites sold in North America and over 67 million worldwide, Sony’s PlayStation Portable (3000) will be available to you at a staggeringly low price of $129.99. This isn’t an Amazon drop or any other type of retailer, this is straight from Sony Computer Entertainment themselves. Good for the United States, but I guess it doesn’t apply in Brazil. With this price drop, the various PSP entertainment packs with bundled games will be available for just $159.99.
But does the hardware sell the games, or do the games sell the hardware? To combat this quandary, Sony has announced seven new games to the PSP “Greatest Hits” title list,

- DISSIDIA FINAL FANTASY (Square Enix, Inc.)
- LittleBigPlanet (PSP)
- METAL GEAR SOLID: PEACE WALKER (Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc.)
- Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters
- Resistance: Retribution
- Toy Story 3: The Video Game (Disney Interactive)
And six more games to the EXTREMELY budget friendly PSP “Favorites” list as well, available at the low, low price of just $9.99.

The PSP excelled at creating console-quality experiences for gamers on the go. With the NGP on it’s way in the end of 2011 (in Japan), and this newly reduced price collection of classic titles, there’s no reason now to not join the portable party. The only question this leaves is… has Sony finally acknowledged the untimely demise of the PSPgo?
