Although Grand Theft Auto IV came out in 2008, it feels like it’s been nearly a decade since we last saw a GTA title. Rumors have been rampant regarding a new console GTA, and analysts believe it’ll release sometime in fiscal year 2012 (just in time for the end of the world…). Whatever the case, fans are hoping that the game is at least in production, and judging by some new data, it most definitely is.
According to domain registry data, several strange, albeit noteworthy domains have been registered by Take-Two Interactive Software, a company that handled the distribution of Grand Theft Auto IV‘s retail software. Below are five sites that have been found thus far:
If you’ve played a Grand Theft Auto game, then these site names instantly ring a bell (maybe even a Cluckin’ Bell). Grand Theft Auto III had spoofs like Equanox, which was a drug that could cure “just about anything”, but came with a long-list of critical side effects. Grand Theft Auto IV had Whiz, a cellphone company that used slogans such as “Can you see my junk now? Good.”, and competed against a company called Tinkle. The five newly obtained domains above seem to line up with Rockstar Games’ humorous style. Hopefully it isn’t long before they become the new source of jokes for commercials on Chatterbox FM in Grand Theft Auto V.
