In such a short period of time, the internet has taken George Hotz from simply being a poofy-haired game nerd to being a poofy-haired game nerd that everyone is keeping an electronic eye on. Now, this 21-year-old the world calls “Geohot” plays the role of a veritable fountain of wisdom, as he tells Sony what the company did wrong.
Referring to himself as “one of the good guys” in the grand scheme of all these recent goings-on, he first made it a point to declare, “I hated cheaters then and I hate them now.”
Geohot continued:
Let’s not fault the Sony engineers for this, the same way I do not fault the engineers who designed the BMG rootkit.
The fault lies with the executives who declared a war on hackers, laughed at the idea of people penetrating the fortress that once was Sony, whined incessantly about piracy, and kept hiring more lawyers when they really needed to hire good security experts.
Maybe he’s got a point there. Did the people at Sony actually make things worse with the way they handled things? Or do you think there wasn’t much that could’ve been done differently, short of somehow seeing the future? The comments below are a good place to let it all out.
