The PlayStation Network outage of April had many consumers worried that there were dark days ahead for Sony. The attack exposed the personal credentials of 75 million users, but it appears that Sony has recovered from the incident, and stands as strong as ever. Sony has revealed that that PSN has added 3 million new members since the service was restored, and that revenue is at an all time high.
Speaking at the IFA electronics show, Sony CEO Howard Stringer said:
I’m pleased to tell you that the PSN is more secure and better than ever. We are aggressively expanding its content. We have more than 3 million new customers since the network came back online, and sales are exceeding what we had before the cyber attacks.
He continued:
This year, we at Sony have been flooded, we’ve been flattened, we’ve been hacked, we’ve been singed. But the summer of our discontent is behind us. The past is a prologue to future possibility.
The PlayStation Network fiasco could have been devastating to Sony’s reputation, so it’s a very positive sign that consumer trust is still in high standing. Sony also recently announced the Sony Entertainment Network, rounding out the package nicely, which makes this news all the more encouraging.
