LulzSec Members Plead Guilty to DDoSing Sony, Nintendo and Others

Two members of the ‘hacktivist’ group LulzSec have admitted that they participated in DDoS attacks on Sony, Nintendo, 20th Century Fox, the NHS and others.

British citizens Ryan Cleary, 20, and Jake Davis, 19, admitted to the Southwark Crown Court that they were involved in attacks on the groups using DDoS (distributed denial of service) attacks. Cleary pleaded guilty to six of eight charges filed by London prosecutors at a hearing today, and Davis pleaded guilty to two of four charges.

Cleary is already in jail in the UK, and was indicted earlier this month by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles, but his attorney said that she would “fiercely contest” any moves to extradite her client to the US.

FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller told Reuters early this month:

Cleary is a skilled hacker. He controlled his own botnet, employed sophisticated methods and his broad geographic scope affected a large number of businesses and individuals.

Ryan Ackroyd and an unnamed 17-year-old male pleaded not guilty to four charges, and denied attacking websites from Sony, Eve Online, Nintendo, News Corp and others, as well as denying that they stole and posted confidential information obtained by the hacking efforts. A UK judge has set a trial date for next April.
