After owners of Far Cry 4 on PlayStation 3 experienced an error message reading “Game Data is corrupt. Please delete FC3 game data,” Ubisoft found a solution to the problem and has issued a new version of the game for download through the PlayStation Store.
Unfortunately, this means affected players will need to completely delete the existing version of the game from their PS3, then re-download the correct version of Far Cry 4.
Here’s how to delete Far Cry 4 from your system:
- Navigate to the ‘Game’ option from the XMB
- Highlight the installed version of the game and press the triangle button
- Select ‘Delete’ and confirm the prompt
- While still in the ‘Game’ option, select ‘Saved Data Utility (PS3)’
- If a Far Cry 4 save file exists, highlight it and press the triangle button
- Select ‘Delete’ and confirm the prompt to remove the save file
- Repeat this step for all Far Cry 4 save files in the folder
- While still in the ‘Game’ option, select ‘Game Data Utility’
- Highlight the Far Cry 4 game data and press the triangle button
- Select ‘Delete’ and confirm the prompt to remove the game data
And here’s how to get the new version of Far Cry 4:
After this is complete, to install the correct version you must select ‘PlayStation Store’ from the ‘Game’ menu option, then download the game again from the Far Cry 4 product page. The new file should appear with a size of 9.4GB.
Ubisoft adds that you don’t have to delete any save files from previous Far Cry games, including Far Cry 3 or Blood Dragon.
Those of you who purchased the game at retail shouldn’t have to worry about the corrupt data message, while future downloads of Far Cry 4 shouldn’t be affected by this issue.
