On Tuesday, Ubisoft announced that The Division developer Massive Entertainment would be leading development on a new Avatar project. Responding to concerns about the future of The Division, Ubisoft told Eurogamer that players have nothing to worry about:
Avatar is a new project with its own dedicated team and Massive is currently recruiting top talent to work on it. Avatar’s development has no impact on the team working on The Division or on our plans to continually support and update the game and brand for the long term.
We’re proud of what the team has accomplished with The Division, thankful for our community’s dedication, and looking forward to sharing more about what’s coming next for the game very soon.
The Division received its final update of Year One earlier this week. Ubisoft hasn’t given any concrete details on their future plans yet, but as mentioned above, they’ll share news soon.
During the Ubisoft earnings call last month, CEO Yves Guillemot revealed that they’ll continue to support one of their currently successful titles (likely either The Division or Rainbow Six Siege), rather than release a sequel:
Our main goal will be to continue to grow and engage our communities further and to increase the time players spend in our world. We will focus more and more on our rate of our resources on developing and bringing to players great year two and year three content for our back-catalog games.
As a consequence, we have decided to expand the current success of one of our title by delivering to its fans more content instead of really seeing a new iteration of the brand. Therefore we expect a maximum of four AAA new releases next year.
What do you hope to see added to The Division next?
