Analysis Shows Shadow of War on Xbox One X Performs Much Better Than PS4 Pro

The Xbox One X may not be out for consumers until next month, but that doesn’t mean people don’t have their hands on it. Over at Eurogamer, the folks at Digital Foundry have recently done a test to see which console version of Middle-earth: Shadow of War performs better between the PlayStation 4 Pro and the upcoming Xbox One X.

It might be surprising to some, but Microsoft’s upcoming machine clearly outperformed the PlayStation 4 Pro, according to the tech analysis group. While the PS4 Pro was described as “no slouch,” it was clear to Digital Foundry that the Xbox One X version was that much better, with the group even going so far as to say that the presentation is one of the most “dramatic boosts” they’ve ever seen.

For a bit more on what made the Xbox One X version the superior experience, check out a brief rundown of it below, and make sure to head over to Eurogamer to check out the full – and extremely interesting – breakdown of the two:

However, even after upgrading to the latest patch 1.04, the Pro still exhibits many low quality textures that stick out like a sore thumb – especially noticeable on ultra HD displays…And that’s the most immediately obvious difference between PS4 Pro and Xbox One X versions of the game – what sticks out right away is that texture problems on PS4 Pro are eradicated. Through sheer capacity via Xbox One X’s 12GB of GDDR5 memory, Shadow of War offers a dramatic improvement in quality: for example, ground textures get a clear resolution bump from the soup-like results on Pro, offering a sharper, clearer presentation.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War is available now.
