Two collections of classic Star Wars games are coming later this year for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Star Wars Jedi Knight Collection brings back both Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, while the Star Wars Racer and Commando Combo features Star Wars Episode I: Racer and Star Wars Republic Commando. Both collections will launch first for PS4 on October 26, 2021, followed by Nintendo Switch on November 16, 2021. The two collections each cost $29.99 and are currently available for preorder at physical retailers.
Unfortunately, by the looks of the descriptions, the collections don’t seem to add anything new to the abovementioned games. Furthermore, the bundle doesn’t even offer the games at a discount; it’s almost exactly the same price whether purchased individually or through the collection. On a positive note, some retailers are selling physical copies of the two bundles for those interested in nabbing themselves some pretty killer cover art.
For the past few years, Aspyr Media has been bringing back classic Star Wars games of the past. In fact, all of the games included in the two collections are already available for individual purchase on the PlayStation Store. Cult classic Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast was rereleased for PS4 back in 2019, as was Star Wars Episode I: Racer and Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy in 2020. Most recently, Aspyr Media released Star Wars Republic Commando for PS4 and Nintendo Switch in April this year, which also featured backwards compatibility with PS5.
Aspyr Media is currently developing the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake, announced during September’s PlayStation Showcase. BioWare originally developed Knights of the Old Republic, but will apparently have no part in the remake’s development—though the team does include some ex-BioWare developers. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake is being built “from the ground up with the latest tech”.
