BioShock Creator’s New Game Will Be ‘Surprising but Unsurprising’

Following reports that BioShock creator Ken Levine’s new game has hit a development snafu, the developer has said that the reason we haven’t seen or heard anything from the project is that he didn’t want to show anything too early and build unnecessary hype.

Speaking in a podcast interview with Arcade Attack, Levine said that people will be “surprised but unsurprised” in equal parts when they finally see what he’s working on. “It’s quite something, quite interesting, and I’m looking forward to showing it to people,” he said.

Ken Levine isn’t working on the new BioShock

While Levine isn’t ready to talk about his project, he has confirmed that he has no involvement in the new BioShock. He expects to officially unveil his game when it’s closer to launch.

“We didn’t want to go down the path of showing too early because we thought it was going to be out sooner,” Levine explained. “And I don’t want to have a long period of having a build-up, interest, and hype because it just doesn’t, it would end up feeling fairly inauthentic and I think that gamers want to be… they want to know what they’re getting, and the only way to do that really is to announce closer to launch.”

Opinion: Ghost Story Games needs to stop losing developers first

Zarmena writes… Bloomberg’s aforementioned report about Ghost Story Games and Ken Levine’s management style is pretty damning. The mystery project has reportedly been rebooted multiple times already and has lost numerous developers. As the industry endeavors to remove toxicity from its culture, it’s no longer enough to simply be known as “the BioShock creator” to get any work done. Here’s hoping Levine’s listening.

In other news, Sony is reportedly offsetting PS5 shortage with more PS4s, and Phil Spencer thinks next-gen console demand is to blame for the shortage because supply is bigger than it’s ever been.
