Tactics Ogre Reborn

Square Enix Trademarks Tactics Ogre: Reborn, Could Be Remaster or Remake

Square Enix has surprisingly trademarked the name “Tactics Ogre: Reborn” in Japan, which might indicate that a new entry in the Ogre Battle and Tactics Ogre series might be on its way. The publisher has yet to make any announcements about this possible remake or remaster.

Is Tactics Ogre: Reborn a remake or remaster?

Usually, trademarks don’t confirm whether a game is in the pipeline or not, as the publisher or developer may merely wish to lay down the legal groundwork for a game that could be made.

But in this case, Tactics Ogre: Reborn (whose trademark was revealed by Nibel in the tweet above) was one of the titles that was leaked in the extensive Nvidia games list back in September 2021 which revealed an incredible number of games meant to release on Nvidia’s GeForce Now service at some undisclosed time in the future. At the time, Nvidia stated that the list was merely “speculative”; however, many of the games leaked have come to fruition like the remasters for Grand Theft Auto trilogy, the Chrono Cross Remaster, the Resident Evil 4 remake, and God of War for PC.

The last game in the Ogre Battle and Tactics Ogre franchise was a 2010 remake on PlayStation Portable called Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together. As for Tactics Ogre: Reborn, it’s unclear whether it’s a remaster or a remake of a previous title, though given the “Reborn” subtitle, it’s likely one of those. Square Enix has been in the habit of remastering its classic titles including a Live a Live remake and Valkyrie Elysium, so Tactics Ogre: Reborn would fit well within their wheelhouse. Of course, the game could be an entirely new entry in the series, but then the “Reborn” moniker would be confusing.

In other news, the Gran Turismo 7 1.11 update has finally fixed credit payouts and increased rewards across the board, and apparently 46% of Playstation players in the US would consider Xbox Game Pass if it had games from Activision.
