Gotham Knights Features “The Biggest Version of Gotham” in Games

The Gotham Knights map will feature the “biggest version of Gotham” in video games according to developers at Warner Bros. Montreal. The game’s version of Gotham City will have plenty of “density and verticality” so that driving around the city using the Batcycle doesn’t become a tedious experience.

How the Gotham Knights map is made for the Batcycle

In an interview with Game Informer, Gotham Knights executive producer Fleur Marty and game director Geoff Ellenor answered a question on the general size of the game’s map. Geoff said:

It’s pretty big. I haven’t put one map over the other, but our Gotham is a big place. I tend to spend a lot of my Zoom calls on the Batcycle driving around Gotham. It is one of the fastest and most chill ways to move around the city.

Fleur then doubled down on the map size, saying that “it’s the biggest version of Gotham that has been represented in video games.” Since the Batcycle is the primary means of long-range transportation through the city streets, the developers wanted to ensure that the game’s version of Gotham had “a lot of layers,” suggesting that The Gotham Knights map wouldn’t be large just for the sake of being large.

As a substitute for the Batmobile in the Arkham games, the Batcycle can be customized “for self-expression” in terms of color and how much noise it makes, though the vehicle itself will not be upgradeable. Heroes will have abilities involving the Batcycle, though, determining “how you jump off it and go into combat.”

Due to the game’s scale and scope, notably the size of the Gotham Knights map, the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game were canceled. It was announced in May that Gotham Knights will have no microtransactions, though it will not have local co-op either.

In other news, Returnal has a Tower of Sisyphus secret reference to be found, and Sony has confirmed an event on June 28 that will feature the new PS5 headsets and monitors by INZONE.
