Firmware Update Prevents Future “ApocalyPS3”

Firmware update 3.40 was released just a bit ago introducing a tidal wave of new content and features to the PlayStation 3. While you can start enjoying all the benefits of PlayStation Plus, you’ll also be able to sleep easier knowing that the biggest scare of 2010 for the PS3 has finally been vanquished for good.

According to GamerZines, with the release of the new firmware version 3.40, the dreaded “Time bug” has been squashed and prevented from ever making its annoying reappearance in the future.

This error in the PlayStation 3’s programming prepared the internal clock to expect a leap year every 2 years rather than 4 and as a result, on March 1st this year, almost every older ‘fat’ PS3 console experienced a massive system failure, preventing folks from connecting to the PlayStation Network, gaining trophies, or even powering on their systems. Luckily though, less than 24 hours later, the problem was rectified without a finger being lifted.
