Sony Prepping Do-It-Yourself Move Games?

Ever since the debut of LittleBigPlanet, user-generated content has become a staple in this generation of video games. It’s not just about playing great games anymore, it’s also about making them yourself. In the aforementioned LittleBigPlanet, gamers are given a set of creation tools to turn their ideas into full-blown games. Tools which have been developed specifically by Media Molecule for use in LBP. But what if Sony provided gamers with a way to develop more powerful games using a PC?

That’s exactly what a description of an upcoming GDC session with SCEA’s John McCutchan suggests.

In the session, McCutchan is to discuss what is called the “Move Server” project — a project aimed at letting average Joe’s take a crack at developing games from the comfort of their own PCs. Here’s an excerpt from the description:

We will discuss the new Move Server project that will make it possible for academics and hobbyists to develop software using the PlayStation Move controller on their own PCs

This sure sounds like Sony is going to release tools that allow users to tinker with Move development software, similar to what the hacking community is already doing with Kinect.

Not knocking the talented developers out there, but if LittleBigPlanet is anything to go by, putting tools in the hands of real gamers can lead to more unique experiences.

GDC is a month away, so expect more information on the Move Server project soon.
