Apple Music Available Now on PS5, Offers a Choice of 90 Million Songs

Players can now choose from more than just Spotify to stream music on their PS5s. The PS5 has become the first console to offer Apple Music subscribers the chance to use the service on the same device as they’re playing their games. Those with an Apple Music subscription have access to over 90 million songs that can be used as background music during a game, as well as being able to view music videos in the app.

Just like with Spotify, Those wanting to use Apple Music to play background music can either start the app before they jump into a game or start it during a game. To do the latter, Apple Music can be opened from the Control Center accessed by pressing the PlayStation button on the DualSense controller; it is one of the options on the Music card. Apple Music will even recommend music to match the game you’re playing, although those suggestions can always be ignored in favor of a playlist from the player’s library or another Apple Music-curated playlist aimed at gamers.

Alternatively the Apple Music app can be used to stream music videos in up to 4K. When starting a game in the middle of a video or going elsewhere on the console’s home screen, the music will continue to play in the background. When returning to the video, it will just pick up from wherever the song has reached without any interruption.

The Apple Music app can be downloaded from the Media space on any PlayStation 5 and will provide step by step instructions on linking existing accounts when you launch it. An Apple Music subscription offers a selection of more than 90 million songs, tens of thousands of curated playlists, personalized playlists, and a broad variety of Apple Music Radio with stations focusing on genres like modern hits, classics, and country.

The addition of Apple Music comes just a few months after PS5 players got a free six month trial for Apple TV+. Those logging into the Apple TV app for the first time on PS5 are given six months of access to the service for free, an offer that applies to both new and existing subscribers. Those still wanting to make use of this offer can do so until July 22, 2022.

Apple Music is available to download on the PS5 now.
