PS5 System Software Update March 2022

PS5 System Software Update is 900MB of Improved System Performance

Sony has released the latest March 2022 PS5 System Software update. The unforgettably named PlayStation 5 System Software Version 21.02-04.51.00 is available to download now, March 8, and contains very few surprises. As usual, the main point of the update is to improve system performance.

PS5 System Software Version 21.02-04.51.00 is 914MB in size. The patch notes for the update simply say “this system software update improves system performance”. This is usually a code word for behind-the-scenes security fixes and software upgrades. No notable changes to the way the console operates have been noticed by ourselves or the player community so far, but if anything comes to light we’ll be sure to let you know. It’s worth noting that one of the previous improved system performance updates managed to fix the PS5 CMOS problem that would have prevented the use of digital games when the console’s internal battery died.

Any major announcements or updates are likely to be saved for the upcoming PlayStation State of Play event tomorrow, March 9. While Sony has said not to expect any hardware announcements during the 20 minute show, nor anything on PSVR 2 games for that matter, there would be nothing to stop them from announcing any upcoming software features. This could perhaps even include the much-rumored Project Spartacus, PlayStation’s answer to Xbox Game Pass that will incorporate PS Plus, PlayStation Now, cloud streaming, and a range of older generation PlayStation titles.

In other news, tomorrow’s State of Play show will focus on games from Japanese developers, as well as a few from developers from other areas of the world. However, the lineup is rumored to have changed thanks to western developers pulling out of the show so as not to detract from the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Elsewhere, sci-fi horror RPG Dolmen is due to be released on PS5 and PS4 in May.
