Hogwarts Legacy May Cost $70 on PS5 and Xbox Series X With No Upgrade Path for Last Gen

It looks like Hogwarts Legacy PS5 and Xbox Series X/S price will $70/£70. As spotted by Video Games Chronicle, several retailers in the United States and UK have listed Hogwarts Legacy’s next-gen versions (or current-gen, rather) for $70/£70 whereas their PS4 and Xbox One counterparts are listed for $60/£60. The said listings appear on Best Buy, GameStop, and GAME, among others.

Can PS4 players upgrade to Hogwarts Legacy PS5?

It’s unclear if last-gen players will be able to upgrade to Hogwarts Legacy’s current-gen versions at a discounted price. VGC noted that GameStop’s box art for Xbox Series X doesn’t mention “Smart Delivery,” which would have indicated that Xbox One players would be able to upgrade. This is also the case with WWE 2K22 in that the wrestling game doesn’t offer any upgrade paths and sells current-gen and last-gen copies as separate products, so there isn’t any mention of Smart Delivery anywhere on its Xbox cases.

The listings can, of course, simply be placeholders. None of this confirms or denies Hogwarts Legacy’s price point and whether it’ll have an upgrade path or not. However, considering how far we are into the current gen, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that cross-gen games will increasingly be sold as separate products.

Opinion: The time for freebies is over

Zarmena writes… News like this usually irks players but it really shouldn’t. We’re well into the current generation of home consoles and I no longer see a justification for pushing companies to offer free or discounted upgrades. I empathize with folks who haven’t been able to secure a PS5 or Xbox Series X but with a little bit of dedication, it’s not terribly hard to snag them anymore. Besides, it’s not really a game publisher’s fault if Sony and Microsoft can’t keep up with demand. Expecting them to release games on both generations and offer freebies/discounts at this point is unreasonable.

In other news, Gran Turismo 7 players are upset with misleading advertisements, and Ubisoft is rumored to be planning a showcase.
