Hogwarts Legacy Wants PS5 Players to Feel the Magic Through DualSense

When Hogwarts Legacy is released on PS5, it will make full use of all of the different features exclusive to the console, including 3D Audio, faster loading through the SSD drive, and 4K graphics. However, the more interesting aspects include how the game will use the DualSense controller to make it “an extension of your wand”.

Casting magic in Hogwarts Legacy with half a PS5 DualSense controller

The DualSense controller adaptive triggers provide resistance while casting any spell, from the most basic to the strongest charms, and each will feel unique thanks to haptic feedback. When deflecting spells, players will be able to feel the magic being absorbed by the Shield Charm too. These effects will only be felt on the right side of the controller so that it will become “an extension of your wand” while in Hogwarts.

Away from magic, the DualSense controller will also use adaptive triggers and haptic feedback for other activities throughout the game, like flying on a broom or crushing ingredients in a pestle and mortar. It isn’t just through tactile feedback that the Dualsense controller has special uses, though. Once players choose their house, the controller lights will glow according to their colors. Ravenclaw is blue and bronze, Gryffindor gets scarlet and gold, Slytherin shines green and silver, while Hufflepuff glows yellow and black. The controller speaker will also provide sounds like the effects of a spell.

Meanwhile, there will be Fidelity and Performance graphics modes to prioritize a higher framerate or a resolution of up to 4K. Tempest 3D AudioTech aims to make players “feel present” throughout the world, while the console’s SSD will provide rapid loading times regardless of whether players use fast travel or fly on a broom. Finally, the PS5 Activity Cards and Game Help features will be utilized.

In other news, Sony has been criticized for selling the Horizon Forbidden West PS5 bundle that only includes a $20 discount and a game code. Elsewhere, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum got a release date for September.
