PlayStation players are once again asking for PS4, PS5 trophies to drop multiplayer requirement for the coveted Platinum trophy in some games. This has been a hotly debated topic among trophy hunters for a number of years, especially when it comes to games that are primarily single-player or those with an additional co-op feature.
PS4, PS5 trophies are often impacted by server shutdowns and lack of online players
A popular Reddit post over the holiday highlighted an issue that has been brought up repeatedly: server shutdowns and lack of players online. Games like Uncharted and The Last of Us, which are primarily single-player, are often quoted as examples of games where multiplayer trophies should not be required to obtain the Platinum.
Servers for sports games are shut down quite frequently, and while there are ways to find players to team up with via sites like Reddit and PSNProfiles, it’s a cumbersome process for many. Then, there are those who simply don’t want to play online or purchase a subscription to do so.
I’m not exactly a trophy hunter but I encountered this issue when playing Deathloop. Despite playing the game when it was fairly new, I couldn’t find anyone to play with. To date, I haven’t had the chance to check out the online component, let alone unlock the two trophies associated with it.
